The American Library Association is NOT telling you the whole story.
Dick pics, rape scene pictorials, & blow jobs are sitting on the shelves of MANY school libraries across the nation, and you have very little control over what your child has access to.
The American Library Association advocates for pornographic content to be in school libraries while simultaneously saying parents have the right to help their child decide what content to choose from.
Director of ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, Deborah Caldwell-Stone, states, “The choice of what to read must be left to the reader or, in the case of children, to parents. That choice does not belong to self-appointed book police.”
In other words, adults have the right to read whatever they want, and parents are in charge of helping their child choose age-appropriate content without over-stepping on another child’s right to have access to do the same.
This sounds great in theory, doesn’t it?
Unfortunately, this is absolutely NOT how things are happening across the country.
The ALA talks in circles when it comes to children’s literature. They mislead the public with statements about a parent’s right and ability to help minors choose appropriate content, but simultaneously stand firm in their mission to keep porn on school campuses. They also offer no compromising solutions on a mature rating system with parental consent options.
When school libraries are putting books on shelves that cross the line into porn… HOW is a parent able to guide their child’s book choices? Parents are typically not involved in this library process on school campuses.
This is WHY parents are outraged when their minor comes home with “literature” that contains dick pics, rape pictorials, and erotic narratives. Many parents have no awareness this content is even allowed on campus, let alone not being given the choice to opt their child out of this material.
The increase in challenged books between 2021 to 2022 went up 75% (statistics posted by the ALA), yet the public is told that it’s a matter of conservatives not wanting to hear minority voices.
The most challenged book by a longshot is titled, “Gender Queer” which sexually targets and exploits the LGB and TQA+ youth, as well as any other minor who is not mature enough for the jarring imagery of sex acts and shocking language.
How sexually explicit is this book? WELL, let’s put it this way…
Hugh Hefner had higher modesty standards for PLAYBOY magazine than the ALA has for the book Gender Queer.
The ALA’s messaging is clearly an attempt to shame parents from speaking up at local school board meetings, while also showing no empathetic pause to even consider any of the scientific research regarding a minor’s early exposure to porn.
Caroline Giroux, a psychiatrist (trauma specialist), and professor for UC DAVIS, states in an article she wrote that, “…pornography is not trivial. It can have traumatic effects leading to significant distress, disruptive behaviors, compulsive sexuality and even suicidal attempts.” You can read more HERE.
In 2015, the public figure, Jared (Fogle) the Subway Guy, was imprisoned for pedophilia. An undercover journalist/FBI informant, Rochelle Herman, discusses how Jared explained his methodology to commit these acts. He would normalize the sexual language around kids, so as to get them to lower their discomfort from the jarring topics and ultimately begin trusting him. The FBI allegedly altered their criminal profile of pedophiles after investigating Jared’s methods.
Despite stories and research like those mentioned above, The American Library Association refuses to acknowledge any of it. In fact, the term porn is seemingly non-existent in their rhetoric whenever discussing the parental concerns.
Their website refers to Gender Queer as being challenged because it’s “claimed to be sexually explicit”. The ALA will not acknowledge that pictorials of a blow job are the exact definition of sexually explicit.
On the website for the Cornell Law School, sexually explicit material is defined as: An audio recording, a film or video recording, or a periodical with visual depictions, produced in any medium, the dominant theme of which depicts or describes nudity, including sexual or excretory activities or organs, in a lascivious way.
In recent days, Caldwell-Stone – an ALA leader – was accused of allegedly encouraging librarians to make the public library meeting rooms unavailable for a Brave Books Story Hour event. Brave Books is a Christian-affiliated company, which appears to be more concerning to the ALA than the sexual exploitation of young readers.
This is an uphill battle to fight. These large trusted organizations keep misrepresenting the current reality in school libraries, and parents are feeling defeated. They want you to think this is about suppressing the voices of history or of minorities. They want people to wear their READ BANNED BOOKS t-shirts to market the idea that there’s a modern culture war against material like, To Kill A Mockingbird. A quick glimpse at the TOP 13 most challenged books in recent years will show you this is simply untrue.
If you’d like to help out in the fight against porn in schools, please spread the word that the ALA’s, Unite Against Book Bans campaign is not what it appears. They are 100% complicit in removing parental rights to give consent over inappropriate and triggering content for their own children.
